Associate of Applied Science
The associate degree in the Air Traffic Control option is offered as a partnership
with the Community College of Baltimore County Catonsville Campus (CCBC) and is designed to prepare
students for employment by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) as weather
briefers and specialists in Flight Service Stations (FSS) or as air traffic
controllers working in control towers, terminal radar control centers, or air
route traffic control centers. Air Traffic Control specialists guide pilots
to their destinations and are responsible for the safe and orderly flow of aircraft
in congested airspace. Flight Service Operators assist pilots in flight planning
by providing air traffic delay and weather condition briefings and by disseminating
important route and airport information. Most of these positions are with the
Federal Government, and individuals may be required to pass a physical exam
and civil service exam.
The Air Traffic Control Option focuses on FAA regulations, air transportation,
and air traffic control operations. This program also includes numerous “hands
on” visits to air traffic control facilities.
